01       Q. What must we do to gain happiness in Heaven?

A. We must know, love, and serve God in this world in a supernatural manner in order to gain the happiness of heaven with Him in the next.

02       Q. We are told that God is all-present, that He is everywhere. If this is true, why do we not see Him?

A. Although God is everywhere, we do not see Him because He is a Spirit and cannot be seen with our eyes. Even though we cannot see God, the splendid order and beauty of creation should constantly remind us of His wisdom, His power, His goodness and nearness to us.

03       Q. What do we mean when we say that God is almighty?

A. When we say that God is almighty we mean that He can do all things.

God can do anything that is not opposed to His perfection, or that is

not self-contradictory.

04       Q. What is the first, second and third person of the Blessed Trinity called?

A. The first Person of the Blessed Trinity is called the Father because from all eternity He begets the second Person, His only-begotten Son. The second Person of the Blessed Trinity is called the Son because From all eternity, He is the only begotten of the Father. Proceeding from the Father, the Son is called the Divine Word or Wisdom of the Father.

The third Person of the Blessed Trinity is called the Holy Spirit because from all eternity He is breathed forth, as it were, by the Father and the Son.

Proceeding from the Father and the Son, He is called the Gift or Love of the Father and the Son..

05       Q. What gifts did God bestow on the angels when he created them?

A. When God created the angels He bestowed on them great wisdom,

power and holiness and He gave them supernatural grace by which

they could gain eternal happiness.

06       Q. What gifts did God bestow on Adam and Eve?

A. The chief gift was sanctifying grace, which made them children of God and gave them the right to heaven.

The other gifts were happiness in the Garden of Paradise, great knowledge, control of the passions by reason, and freedom from suffering and death.

07       Q. What three things are necessary to make a sin mortal?

A. To make a sin mortal these three things are necessary.

First, the thought, desire, word, action or omission must be seriously wrong or considered seriously wrong.

Second, the sinner must be mindful of the serious wrong. Third, the sinner must fully consent to it.

08        Q. What are the chief effects of sanctifying grace?

A. The chief effects of sanctifying grace are.

It makes us holy and pleasing to God. It makes us adopted children of God.

It makes us temples of the Holy Ghost and it gives us the right to heaven.

09        Q. What are the three theological virtues? Explain what each one is.

A. The three theological virtues are Faith, Hope and Charity.

Faith is a virtue by which we firmly believe all the truths God has revealed, on the word of God revealing them, who can neither deceive or be deceived.

Hope is a virtue by which we firmly trust that God, who is all powerful and faithful to His promises, will in His mercy give us eternal happiness and the means to obtain it.

Charity is a virtue by which we love God above all things for His own sake, and our neighbor as ourselves for the love of God.

10        Q. What are seven gifts of the Holy Spirit?

A. The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are: wisdom, understanding, council, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord.

11          Q. Who founded the Church and why?

A. Jesus Christ founded the Church just before His ascension, when He commissioned the apostles to make disciples of all nations. He founded the Church in order to bring all people to eternal salvation.

12        Q. Did Christ give special power in His Church to any one of the apostles?

A. Christ gave special powers in His church to Saint Peter by making him the head of the apostles and the chief teacher and ruler of the entire Church.

The power of the keys was promised to Saint Peter and was actually conferred on him.

13        Q. What do we mean by the marks of the Church and what are they?

A. By the marks of the Church we mean certain clear signs by which

all men can recognize it as the true Church founded by Jesus Christ. The marks of the Church are four: It is one, holy, catholic and apostolic.

14        Q. What is meant by the authority of the Catholic Church?

A. By, the authority of the Catholic Church is meant that the Pope and the bishops as the lawful successors of the apostles, have power from Christ Himself to teach, to sanctify, and to govern the faithful in spiritual matters.

15        Q. What is meant by "the resurrection of the body?"

A. By "resurrection of the body" is meant that at the end of the world the bodies of all men and women will rise from the earth and be united again to their souls, nevermore to be separated.

16          Q. What are the 12 fruits of the Holy Spirit?

A. They are: charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, long-suffering, mildness, faith, modesty, continence, and chastity.

17 Q. Which are the two great commandments that contain the whole law of God?

A. The first is thou shall love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind, and with thy whole strength.

The second is thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself.

A. We should assist at Mass with reverence, attention, devotion, uniting with the priest in offering the Holy Sacrifice and to receive Holy Communion.

22 Q. Why do we pray?

A. We pray: to adore God, expressing to Him our love and loyalty. To thank Him for His favors. To obtain from Him the pardon of our sins and the remission of their punishment. To ask for graces and blessings for ourselves and others.

23         Q. Why is the Our Father the best of all prayers?

A. Because it is the Lord's Prayer, taught us by Jesus Christ Himself, and because it is a prayer of perfect and unselfish love and in saying it we offer ourselves entirely to God and ask from Him the best things, not only for ourselves but also for our neighbor.

24         Q. Why do we address God as "Our Father who art in heaven"?

A. Because we belong to Him, our loving Father, who created us and watches over us, who adopts us through sanctifying grace as His children, and who destines us to live forever with Him in heaven, our true home.

A. Divine Tradition is the revealed truths taught by Christ and His apostles which were given to the Church only by word of mouth and not through the Bible, though they were put in writing principally by the Fathers of the Church.

A. "From among the descendants of Eve, God chose the Virgin Mary to be the mother of his Son. 'Full of grace,' Mary is 'the most excellent fruit of redemption' from the first instant of her conception she was totally preserved from the stain of original sin and she remained pure from all personal sin

throughout her life."

A.            "When the course of her earthly life was finished, she was taken up

30 Q. What are some of the duties of parents?

A. Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children in the faith, prayer, and all of the virtues. They have the duty to provide as far as possible for the physical and spiritual needs of their children.

Parents should respect and encourage their children's vocations. They should remember and teach that the first calling of the Christian is to follow Jesus.

31 Q. Why does every individual in the Church deserve respect?

A. (1) In the Church every individual deserves respect, since all join in the one cause of Christ. The Pope and the bishops coordinate this work, in every rite, diocese, parish, and mission. (2) In each no matter how small or poor or isolated, "Christ is present, and by His power the one, holy Catholic and Apostolic Church is gathered together."

A. The Church is a community sharing together the life of Christ, a people assembled by, God. Within this assembly there is a baste equality of all persons. There are different responsibilities in the Church. This assembly is call of "the People of God" and "the body of Christ."

A. The community of faith owes the Pope and bishops respect and obedience, for in exercising his office off father and pastor, a bishop should stand as one who serves.

A. Conscience is a personal judgment that sometimes is right or wrong because of the will and law of God. Conscience is an awareness of what God is asking us to do at a given time. It helps us to know when we act sinfully.

Our conscience tells us whether an action is right or wrong, a mortal or a venial sin. Our conscience is our mind judging on moral matters.

Therefore, it must be instructed. We must learn from Christ, teaching through His Church.

50 Q. What is the wish of the Church concerning devotion to Mary?

A. The Church urges that special veneration be given to Mary, due to her as Mother of Christ, Mother of the Church, and our spiritual Mother. This veneration is to be taught by word and example.

51 Q. What will happen on the day of the last judgment?

A. All of us will be revealed "before the judgment place of Christ, so that each one may receive what he deserves, according to what he has done, good or bad, in his bodily life" Then. "the evildoers shall rise to be damned," and "those who have done right shall rise to live" to a life eternally with God beyond what the heart of man can imagine, to receive the good things that God has prepared for those who love Him.

52 Q. Who were the Holy Innocents?

A. They were martyred boys under two years of age, whom King Herod ordered to be massacred. It was an attempt by Herod to kill the Babe of Bethlehem, who he feared would usurp his kingship.

A. An indult is a temporary favor granted by the Holy See to bishops to permit them to do something not otherwise allowed. If given for a certain time, it must be renewed by competent ecclesiastical authority. Thus according to the Code of Canon Law, an indult is required for a priest to practice surgery and a cloistered nun needs an indult to travel outside the cloister.

A. It is the annual cycle of the mysteries of Christ, the Blessed Virgin, angels, and saints which the Church commemorates in the Mass, the Divine Office, and other forms of public worship. The liturgical year begins with the first Sunday in Advent and closes with the thirty-fourth week through the year or Christ the King Sunday.

A. It is the most solemn and weighty form of papal letter. The name is derived from the Latin bulla, the disklike leaden seal attached to such a document. It is used by the Pope in appointing a bishop.

A. They are sacramentals blessed by a bishop.

and oil of the sick. The holy oils are symbols of spiritual nourishment and the light of grace.

A. It is the lifelong commitment to serving as deacon in the Catholic

Church. Ordination to the permanent diaconate is preceded by a decision as to which form a man wishes to enter, the transitional or the permanent.
